Date:Sunday, April 19, 2015
Time:4:00pm - 6:00pm
Presenter:Forbes Library
Location:Off Site
Categories:All Hamptons Read, Film Showing, One-Time Events
Description:

The Maltese Falcon, (1941) starring Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor, was filmed in six weeks on a low budget and was John Huston’s directorial debut.

The stylistic film is a mixture of mystery, romance, and thriller. It is mostly known for a number of memorable portrayals of corrupt, deceitful, hard-nosed villains...low-life quirky crooks ...and tough heroes, interwoven complex interactions between vividly-played characters, double-crossing intrigues and deceptions ...posturings, betrayals and materialistic greed. Everything is contained in marvelous characterizations and lines of dialogue.  -Tim Dirks: filmsite.org

Some film histories consider “The Maltese Falcon” the first film noir. It put down the foundations for that native American genre of mean streets, knife-edged heroes, dark shadows and tough dames.   -Roger Ebert

Tickets are $7 each and can be puchased from the Academy of Music

Participants of book discussions will receive a free ticket.
