This spring the national traveling exhibit States of Incarceration: A National Dialogue of Local Histories is coming to Holyoke and Northampton, hosted by Forbes Library, Historic Northampton and Wistariahurst in partnership with the UMass Amherst Public History Program and co-sponsored by the Feinberg Family Distinguished Lecture Series of the UMass Amherst Department of History.

In coordination with the exhibit, over 15 local organizations across 6 Pioneer Valley cities and towns are hosting lectures, workshops, film screenings, book discussions, performances and more on this critical social issue.  The goal of the exhibit and programs is to spark public dialog about the history — and future — of mass incarceration in the U.S., a issue that impacts so many of our residents and communities in deep and far-reaching ways.

This is not the beginning of a conversation; It is the illumination of a dialogue and body of work that already exists in our region, with opportunities for all to learn more and get involved.
