Needle Felting and Fiber Crafts

Needle Felting with Wool, and other Fiber Crafts

Join us Wednesdays in the Arts and Music library lounge area from 2 pm to 4 pm, beginning April 5!

At the first session April 5, Lisa Melnick will demonstrate how to felt flat and sculpt three-dimensional objects, figures, animals, jewelry or anything else you can imagine.  We'll start with bits of loose, fluffy, colorful wool and special felting needles. The wool is shaped and compacted by stabbing with the needle, becoming firmer. We'll start with simple shapes and learn how to join them together. I'll show how to sculpt faces and embellish figures. Some rough knitting wools like Lopi can be added. You can also embellish wool clothing with needle felting.  The library will supply some wool. Additional supplies (foam work base and felting needles may be available for purchase at the library or New England Felting Supply in Easthampton.

Feel free to bring your own fiber craft projects to work alongside similarly occupied companions!

Lisa Melnick is a self-taught fiber artist and former social worker with decades of experience in sewing clothes and accessories, knitting, making art dolls, drawing, painting, and mixed media.
