Climate Change in Your Backyard

Given the early fall record-breaking heat wave, the hottest years on record all occurring in the last 4 years, the recent drought, and the extreme storms that the northeast and the country are experiencing, you may be wondering what climate change has in store for our own Connecticut River Valley. This presentation will focus on the expected impacts of climate change to the natural environment, including gardens, invasive plants, trees, and wildlife in your own backyard.

SPEAKER: Dr. Toni Lyn Morelli is a USGS Research Ecologist for the NE Climate Science Center. Toni Lyn uses field work, computer modeling, mapping, and genetics to help resource managers and conserve species in the face of climate and land use change. Her current projects include identifying and conserving climate change refugia, studying the effects of snow loss on montane and Arctic species, exploring the effects of climate change on sugar maple and maple syrup production, and developing decision analysis tools for climate adaptation.
