Alpine Skiing -- Riding "on the Cheap"
- Alpine equipment can be obtained more cheaply off-season than during peak season
- Alpine lift tickets can be quite pricey, during peak season
- Online options and pre-season sales are explored: including FREE skiing for youth.
Staying in shape during the winter season can be a challenge, as we hunker down to avoid the cold weather. For those willing to challenge the outdoors, there are many personal/non-machine options, among them: snowshoeing, winter hiking, ice climbing and both Nordic (cross-country) and Alpine skiing. This talk addresses the Alpine option.
Methods for reducing prices on both of these components of the Alpine experience will be discussed in a give and take session.
Equipment: ski swaps; leasing; pre-season sales & times to purchase
Tickets: ski clubs; pre-season lift ticket purchases; online advance purchases
NOT included: no discussions of reduced lodging options
The prepared talk is expected to be 20 minutes or less; note-taking is encouraged. Time will be allowed to expand on any questions brought by the attendees.
Speaker: Lee Ouellette has been with the National Ski Patrol for over 30 years at both Ski Sundown and Butternut Basin; he has helped lead Alpine groups of 40 or more skiers to destinations both in the US and to Europe, while also running ski bus groups from CT to New England and Canadian venues. His desire is to share knowledge of how families and individuals can make their Alpine experience affordable again.
