Metamorphosis in Greek Mythology

Metamorphosis in Greek Mythology

Join us to hear a brief overview of themes of metamorphosis in Greek mythology and mythological scenes in art, focusing on some well known stories (Medusa, Actaeon, Io) and some lesser known ones (Tiresias).

Transformations occur not only in the myths, but also in the art, as ancient Greek artists grappled with conveying narrative in static media.

Content warning: Many Greek myths are violent, and much of that is directed toward women. Please be advised that some difficult topics may be discussed. Attendees are welcome to enter/exit the room at any time.

About the presenter: Rebecca Worsham is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Classical Languages and Literatures at Smith College. She is an archaeologist specializing in the material of the ancient Greek world.
