Werth's new book, Prisoner of Lies: Jack Downey's Cold War, tells the remarkable true story of the longest-held prisoner of war in American History, John Downey Jr., a CIA officer captured in China during the Korean war and imprisoned for twenty-one years. A story of remarkable fortitude and resilience, Prisoner of Lies is a gripping historical account written by a highly skilled researcher and storyteller.
Barry Werth will be joined in conversation by local novelist, essayist, and playwright, Anthony Giardina.
