Readers & Writers Live: Patrick Donnelly and Amy Thatcher
Writers Patrick Donnelly and Amy Thatcher will read and discuss their work as part of the Readers & Writers Live series.
About the writers:
- A former poet laureate of Northampton, Patrick Donnelly is the author of five books of poetry. “Everything he writes is suffused with tenderness and intelligence, lucidity and courage,” wrote poet Gregory Orr. Donnelly’s poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, Slate, The Virginia Quarterly Review, and The Yale Review, among others. He is Program Director of The Frost Place, Robert Frost’s old homestead in Franconia, NH, now a center for poetry and the arts. Donnelly’s translations with Stephen D. Miller of classical Japanese poetry were awarded the 2015-2016 Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission Prize for the Translation of Japanese Literature. Donnelly’s other awards include a U.S./Japan Creative Artists Program Award, and an Amy Clampitt Residency Award.
- Amy Thatcher is a native of Philadelphia where she works as a public librarian. Her poems have been published by Guesthouse, Rhino, Bear Review, Palette Poetry, Crab Creek Review, SWWIM, Spoon River Poetry Review, Rust + Moth, Anti-Heroin Chic, South Florida Poetry Journal, Does It have Pockets, Iron Horse Literary Review, The Shore, The Journal, Harbor Review, Denver Quarterly, Cherry Tree, and forthcoming in Split Lip and the Bennington Review. Thatcher’s poems have been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and Best New Poets 2024.

Readers and Writers Live is a revival of an author reading series that was produced by the (now closed) Globe Bookshop on Pleasant Street in the 1980s and 1990s. The new edition here at Forbes Library will take place in the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Library and Museum on the second Wednesday of each month.
