Harvest of Empire: The Untold Story of Latinos in America gives the roots of the crisis of thousands of refugees trying to enter the US amid heated and divisive debate over immigration. Based on the groundbreaking book by award-winning journalist Juan Gonzalez (Democracy Now), it examines the direct connection between the immigrant crisis of today and the long history of US intervention in Latin America.
Harvest of Empire takes an unflinching look at the role that US military interventions and corporate interests played in triggering unprecedented waves of immigration from Central America, Mexico, and Cuba, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Guatamala, El Salvador, Dominican Republic .
The film interviews such respected figures as Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta Menchu, Pulitzer Prize winner writer Junot Diaz, and journalists Maria Hinojosa and Geraldo Rivera, and local poet Martin Espada.
The Resistance Film series is co-sponsored by The Resistance Center of Western MA and the Northampton Committee to Stop the Wars.
