Backyard tiny homes up to 800 SF are allowed in Northampton!!! Join us to learn how you can build one to age in place.
Northampton's zoning bylaw allows homeowners to build backyard homes to rent out or for family members to live in. The city calls them "Detached Accessory Apartments".
People are using the homes to age in place by downsizing into their backyard OR to create multi-generational households. In both cases, families can live close, but not too close.
During this forum style presentation we'll discuss:
- The rules in Northampton
- How to evaluate your backyard
- How to finance the project
- Subsidizes for seniors and people with disabilities
- Relevant building code (foundation, insulation and utilities)
