Frances Crowe Film Series: Power Struggle

Frances Crowe Film Series: Power Struggle

Frances Crowe Film Series, presented by the Committee to Stop the Wars.

4th Wednesdays. Virtual until it's safe to be in person!

As the world marks the 10th anniversary of the triple nuclear meltdowns at Fukushima, Japan, a film featuring our late local activist Frances Crowe and her Shut It Down Affinity Group shows the unfolding drama of closing a dangerous nuclear power plant in nearby Vermont.

POWER STRUGGLE--an inspiring story of grassroots activists making a difference--was filmed by local and nationally known filmmaker Robbie Leppzer. It outlines the heated political battle to shut down the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant, located on the banks of the Connecticut River in southern Vermont. The film shows citizen activists and state officials—alarmed at increasing safety violations—taking on the federal government and one of the biggest power companies in the United States and eventually winning.

POWER STRUGGLE (86 minutes), available to watch on your own from March 24 to April 4, will include two extra shorts featuring Frances Crowe: in 1977 at the Seabrook, NH anti-nuclear protest, and 2019 at her 100th birthday march through Northampton with activists carrying signs reflecting decades of struggles.

Zoom discussion with filmmaker and film participants at 6:30pm on Wed. March 31.
